Lady Patriots Come up a Goal Short in State Title 9-10
Those who don't know Lake Brantley lacrosse might have thought that the state finals game wouldn't be much of a contest. Those who knew the character of the 25 members of the 2010 Varsity team knew better. Although they came up one goal short of their aspiration, this team gave it a great effort, and for that we couldn't be more proud of them. Congratulations to the Indians for standing up to the Patriot challenge - certainly the toughest team they faced all year.
Lady Patriots Head to 9th State Final
Lake Brantley is a familiar name at the state championship - they've been there more than any other team in Florida. This year the Lady Patriots faced the Park Vista Cobras for the second time this season, and defeated them 11-5 in the state semi-finals to earn their ninth trip to the big dance. The Patriots' foe will be a familiar one, the Vero Beach Indians who wanted to make a statement with a 24-9 thrashing of Winter Springs in the other semi-final match up. Time for all good Patriot fans to come to the aid of their team and support this hard-working and talented group of young ladies - Be there, West Orange HS at 5:00 PM.
Patriots Win 10th Regional Title
The Patriots defeated a stubborn Lake Highland Prep team 18-10 to win Region 2 and move on to the State Semi-Finals at West Orange High School on April 23rd at 5:00 PM. Lake Brantley will now take on Park Vista for the second time this season. Be sure to come out and support our Lady Patriots as they strive to capture their fourth State title. Good luck Lady Patriots, time to "Meet the Challenge."
Patriots Win 12th District Title
The first round began with Lake Brantley handily defeating the Lake Howell Silver Hawks, followed by another rematch with always competitive rival, Lake Mary. The Rams played tough through the first half, leaving the score knotted at the mid-point. The Patriots were able to rally and pull out the win in a strong second half performance to capture their 12th District title and keep the streak alive. Congratulations to the 2010 Lady Patriots!
Regular Season Ends on a Winning Note
The Lady Patriots have put together an impressive seven game winning streak to enter the post season in fine fashion. The 2010 team has battled through some tough injuries in mid-season and is now playing some of their best lacrosse all year. Congratulations to the 2010 Lady Patriots for an outstanding season and maintaining a #2 ranking in the state. (#61 in the nation!) Be sure to support the team on their quest to return to the State Finals at West Orange.
2010 Season Gets Off on the Right Foot
The 2010 season began on a good note with the Lady Patriots winning their first 5 games, including two impressive top five victories against Park Vista and Winter Springs.
Annual 5K Lacrosse Run and "Fun Day"
The Seventh Annual Lake Brantley Boys Lacrosse 5K Run was Saturday, February 6th at Wekiva Springs Elementary School, 1450 East Wekiva Trail, Longwood, FL. All LBHS Lax players ran in this event and families were invited to join in. We had a Family Fun Day BBQ at Sweetwater Beach at 4:00 PM after the race.
Pro Lacrosse Comes to Orlando
Professional lacrosse has come to Orlando. The NLL division champion Titans have moved to Orlando and kicked off their 2010 season. This is a top notch team with world class players such as Casey Powell. They also have many community events and youth training camps planed as well. Check out the link on the "Links" page for more details.
Coaching Changes for 2010 JV Team
With the Patriot JV coaching position seemingly becoming a stepping stone for head coaching jobs at other schools, the Patriots were once again left with a huge void to fill. Thankfully, former Patriot Head Coach Karen Shellhammer has graciously stepped in to fill the JV coach's slot. Karen brings with her many years of coaching experience and her #1 trainer, Joanie Subasic. Welcome back Karen and Joannie!
2009 State Championship - Battle of the Three Time Champions
Both Lake Brantley and Vero Beach entered the game with three State Titles under their belts. This was the rematch to determine who would win their forth. At the final horn, the Patriots 11 game winning streak had come to an end as Vero Beach won 16-7.
Lake Brantley Wins Last Second Thriller in 2009 State Semi-Final
The State semi-final game was definitely not for the faint at heart. Winter Springs, determined to repeat their earlier victory this year by last minute heroics, were instead finding themselves in a role reversal situation. The Patriots started off slowly, giving the Bears the early lead 3-1. Finally getting things going, the Patriots answered back with three straight goals and were able to take a 4-3 edge at intermission. In the first seconds of the second half the Patriots scored again and looked like they were on their game leading 5-3. Winter Springs was not ready to give up yet and battled back through the whole second half, finally regaining the lead 8-7 with only minutes left. The Lady Patriots dug deep and in the final 46 seconds tied the game at 8 apiece. The ensuing draw had Brantley take control and with only 20 seconds left, they came up with the game winner 9-8. For the first time, both the Lake Brantley girls and boys teams advance to the State Championships.
